Life is Not Fair

So just accept that and move on.

Seriously…

It’s ok.

I mean that.

No matter how bad the cards you are dealt happen to be, that’s just how it is. You can choose to sit there and dwell on the situation and how it sucks, or you can accept it and take action to improve it the best you can.

There are many things in life we simply cannot control. However, how we prepare for and react to, those things is completely in our control.

Isn’t that beautiful?!

This applies to every aspect of our lives, from seemingly small things to life changing events.

If you plan an outdoor family event and it rains, you can bitch and moan about how unlucky you are or how the day is ruined, or you can adapt and overcome. Or even better, prepare a backup plan before hand, just in case of rain.

Seemingly small issues…. but weather isn’t something we can control, no matter the intensity…

If good ole mother nature decides to throw a hurricane at the east coast, there is nothing you can do to stop it. But, just like above you are still in control of how your prepare and react. You can choose to not live on the east coast. If you do decide to live on the east coast, you can prepare for such issues. Where you buy your house, how you insure it, what plans you make for evacuation, what plans you make if you lose the house, etc… All things you are completely in control of. If you don’t do any of that, it’s your fault… but still, that’s life, so assess where you’re at and move forward.

Traffic sucks? Can’t change that. I can however, anticipate traffic issues, leave early, take different routes, or have other contingency plans.

Along the same lines, but not he other end of the emergency spectrum, if some asshole runs a red light while texting and t-bones your car, there’s nothing we can do to change that. You need to assess any bodily harm to yourself or loved ones and address it. Again, my ability to prepare for and react to these things IS in my control.  Pay attention to all cars approaching intersections, not be distracted myself, have medical equipment in the vehicle, train with that, have insurance, have contingency plans for being out of work, etc etc…

This even applies in self defense. If someone breaks into my house with the intent to kill me or my loved ones, feeling sorry for yourself or asking God why this is happening, will not help you. It is already happening, why does not matter, but what you do now does! Do you have plans in place for family in events like this? Do you train? Do you have defensive tools in the house? Do you have medical supplies in the house?

The harsh truth is that you are responsible for everything in your life… You and you alone. You may not have chosen the circumstances, and you may not be at “fault” for what is going on, but you ARE responsible. No one else.

Grasping this simple truth is so important in life. To progress in work, relationships, and life in general, you must learn to accept the situation and focus on a solution.

If you continue to focus on the circumstances, and refuse to take responsibility, you will lose.

Life is not fair. It has never been fair. It will never be fair.

Act accordingly.

You’re one decision away from being awesome.

Be good, train hard, stay safe
