If you haven’t read the book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck” by Mark Manson, I highly recommend it. It’s a book about learning to care more by learning to care about less.
This tends to be a huge problem in life.
There are so many things to care about.
Equal Rights.
Gun Rights
Immigration
Cancer (pick one – lots to choose from)
Abortion
Sports Teams
Your Family
Hunger
Climate
Pick any topic the media likes to beat you in the face with.
The reality is, it is impossible to truly care about everything.
And that is ok.
We all have our own lives. Our own struggles. Our own stories.
How am I supposed to solve world hunger and cure breast cancer when I haven’t figured out how I am going to pay for my kids college.
How can I invest time, money, and passion into one subject, when everyone is asking for me to pay attention to their passions and wants and causes?
The answer is you can’t.
There’s no need to donate to every charity, and get involved in every cause, and focus on every issue.
In fact, if more people focused their energy on less things, we would probably solve more problems.
My $1,000 is better going towards one cause that I am truly passionate in, then splitting that money ten ways to ten different causes.
My time is better spent focused in one area than split among several.
At the root of it all, it comes down to identifying your core principles.
What are the things you truly care about?
Once you know that, it is so much easier to say no to the things that don’t align with your life, and to focus your efforts and energy on the things that DO.
And that’s where you start to see change.
When you don’t have focus, that’s when we get caught up in everyone else’s causes, because if you don’t define your time, someone else will.
So, stop giving a Fuck about everything and start focusing your efforts on the things that matter to you, and don’t feel bad about that.
It’s better for all of us!
Be good, train hard, stay focused
