ASR/RAK Defense: Takedown Concepts from Contact

The drills we laid out in the first nine videos of our ASR/RAK Defense series covers the majority of what we discuss and teach in our seminars. These drills will give someone very good hands on practice with dealing with a dynamic and violent encounter.

One area we haven’t discussed it doing purposeful takedowns from contact or a clinch or some type.

Now, it must be understood that how you approach this will weigh heavily on your background and training time. Like everything else we teach, we like to lay out simple laws or concepts for approaching this instead of specific techniques.

The rule for this is “Low Risk Takedowns” – by our definition that is something that if done correctly puts them on the ground in a position where I am in control AND more importantly, if the takedown fails I end up in the same position or better.

In this video we look at a few simple concepts/techniques from different positions, but at the end of the day, these are just a few examples. We like to keep it simple, aggressive, and again LOW RISK.

Check it out and see what you think!
